About Chemistry Department

The Chemistry Department started with the beginning of the Education College of Girls in 1423 AH during its subordination to the Agency for Girls' Education. The Chemistry Department offers a bachelor's degree in science and education (chemistry). The first group of students was graduated in 1427 AH according to quarterly system. The last group graduated according to the quarterly system was in 1431 AH. The College joined to Najran University as a Faculty of Science and Arts in Sharourah (Girls) with the emergence of the Najran University in 1427 AH with the change of its system to credit hours with the same bachelor name.

Chemistry is about the nature of matter, how to make it, how to measure it, how to model it. In that sense chemistry really matters; it is essential to explaining all the real world. It holds the key to making new drugs, creating new materials, and understanding and controlling material properties of all sorts. It is no wonder then that chemistry is called the "Central Science".

The Chemistry Department provides the opportunity for an undergraduate student to obtain a thorough fundamental knowledge of all fields of chemistry. There are lecture courses in the general areas of inorganic, analytical, organic, and physical chemistry. Laboratory experience is provided in inorganic and organic synthesis, analytical methods, physical chemical measurements and spectroscopy. The equipment and techniques available to the undergraduate student include flam photometer, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, visible, ultraviolet, infra-red, fluorometery and mass spectrometers, Polarography, Voltammetry, and gas chromatography.

Undergraduates in chemistry can go on to several professional fields, including graduate study, and are also in high demand in fields like secondary education.  Our commitment to teaching is also reflected in our desire to build a community environment and provide every opportunity of success for our undergraduates.

Department members are available as academic advisers and hold office hours for consultation about their courses; they are also willing to discuss chemistry, science, career opportunities.

There are five labs in the chemistry section of the female branch:
